Conda Green paint code mystery
After hanging around in the paint shop for most of last year my 1970 model 911T is about to get its top coat. However I have a problem with the paint codes. The data plate on the ‘A’ pillar gives a 2626 paint code. My spotters guide (Original 911 by Peter Morgan) lists Conda Green as a 222 code for 2.2 litre cars and a 2626 code for 2.4 litre cars.
So in theory my car should carry the code 222 being 2.2 litres (C programme) but it carries 2626 instead. I wonder if it is at variance being a Karmann manufactured car as opposed to a Stuttgart one or perhaps my guide is wrong. My main concern though is whether 222 and 2626 are in reality exactly the same colour or whether they are a few shades apart. The paint suppliers only seem to recognise the 222 code. Here is a pic of said project: ![]() Thanks in anticipation Keith.

2626 is correct for a 70' coupe
I believe Morgans book may be in error on the 70' cars. I believe the 4 digit, and in some cases 5 digit, codes were used 66' through 71' and in 72' Porsche went with the three digit code. It doesn't make sense that Porsche would use 4 digit codes through 69' switch to three digit for 70' switch back to 4 digit for 71' and then back to three digits for 72'. I believe the three digit code is also a universal code and the old four digit codes were Porsche exclusive but I'm not sure. P.S. the Red Book shows the four digit codes for 70'71' cars with the color chart three digit code next to it. Coupe/Targa 2610/2626 = 222 = Conda Green

The 4-digit paint codes were used exclusively from '65 thru '71 production models, whereas 3-digit codes were used from '72 models thru '83. These facts are documented in the factory service manuals!!!
The numeric codes were sometimes altered with a prefix or suffix letter code to designate mfr of the paint in some references and compilations, but much confusion has been created and dispersed by those writers and web sources that mix the years all together, and thrown into that jibberish is the late VW-style codes with suffix and prefix letters, such as L90E, which is artic white ... a VW code from the 1970s! It wouldn't surprise me if my old '66 VW code L87D for Pearl White showed up in print or on paintscratch.com as a 993 color! The only case where a '72 - '83 model 911 could have had a 4-digit code ... is if that car was custom-ordered with an earlier paint code. A special-order paint-to-sample car would have a 3-digit code assigned ... it wouldn't have been a 4-digit code unless determined to be identical to an early code that already existed! The discrepancies in published references [especially the side-by-side charts] are very confusing, so be careful what you believe ...
