Strange Smoking '94 911 Turbo

I'm having an odd problem that I'm hoping someone can help with. My 1994 911 turbo (upgraded headers, removed cats) starts BILLOWING blue smoke from the right tailpipe after the engine is thoroughly warmed, then it goes away and comes back intermittently. I just had the engine rebuilt 2000 miles ago (unfortunately is was 1000 miles away, we moved, otherwise I'd be bringing it back to my old mechanic!) and the performance is fine, whether it is smoking or not.

I suspect that oil must be getting into the exhaust post-engine, otherwise I would think I would see the problem before the engine is fully hot and performance would be affected.

There are no external oil leaks.

Can anyone help?

blue?
I always thought blue smoke was incomplete combustion from a rich environment...

White smoke is oil...i think

Bluish white smoke, as from burning oil (I think) rather than blck from a rich mixture.

Single or twin-turbo? If single turbo, that sounds very weird considering that all exhaust gases go trough same pipe/turbine.

It might be turbo seal leaking and oil pooling in one of pipes.

A turbo seal sounds like the ticket, thanks for the advice. The 94 is a single turbo with twin exhaust, my understanding is that the left is the turbo wastegate. At idle only the right tailpipe emits. (The DMV doing emissions inspection were so confused by this it was hilarious for the first half hour they were trying to hook it up!)

Any good reference for pulling the turbo? I will dig out my upfixin' but while I'm here I might as well ask...

I've heard of problems with the Mahle oil filters.
