Brake lights
During the Vancouver Pelicans tour on Jan 7, 2006, I was informed that my brake lights don't work. I tested them when I got home, and they only come on when I push the brake pedal hard all the way down.
Any idea what the issue may be. Any help would be greatly apprecaited. The car is a 82 (11 SC coupe. Thanks,

Try a search, I found lots of info on this. I searched for "Brake Light Switch" For example this thread:
Brake light activation Or try this link: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/search.php?action=showresults&searchid=1693001&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending

It's most likely the switches on the side of the master cylinder. When both go out, the brake lights don't work. Our host sells them. They're not expensive, and relatively easy to replace.
Good luck. Scott

Thanks. That is probably the case. Looks like I will need to order some switches. How can I tell if they are 2 or 3 prong?

Count the prongs on the switch. Probably will be two.

the SC needs the three prong. i just changed these the day before yesterday. the VW and our cars share the same part #. i got mine from a better local auto parts store. the back one is a beotch to get tooooo. it took a 15/16 standard socket with a funky elbow set up.
took 45 minutes, and i was wearing good jeans and shirt

When I replaced mine this past summer, I had my wife hold the brake pedal down as I changed the switches out. I lost just a bit of fluid and didn't have to bleed. WOOHOO!
