Where to by a 911 windsheild?

I'm about to remove my windsheild for a total respray of my 72' E and am afraid to remove my windsheild incase it breaks (50/50 chance i'm told). I'd like to have on readily accessable just in case, and cant find one on our sponsers site. any clues?
Nabil

I bought mine at Parts Heaven, www.partsheaven.com locally. I am not sure if they would ship.

You should call your local auto glass places. They should be able to source it, even if you install it yourself.

I think chances of the glass breaking are less than 50%, so don't worry too much before it actually happens.

I think you can go to most automotive glass places and get on/have it installed. I have gotten windshields for my 911 from Safelite several times. The early cars are around $230 installed.

The windshield is easy to remove without breaking. Cut into the gasket on either side of the aluminum trim, at 45 degree angles. You cuts will meet in the middle and you can then lift the trim out, which tensions the gasket and windshield into the windshield frame. After pulling out the trim, the windshield lifts out easily.

The risk of breakage is upon reinstallation. I'd recommend just tossing yours and replacing with new - it'll look so much nicer with that glossy respray anyway. I just had one delivered for my '72T last week (also bare shell respray in progress), it was $120 delivered from Safelite. I will install myself.

Wow!! 120$$ new, hard to argue with that. a respray looks so much better with all the glass out. I think I'll go with a new glass. thanks for the quick heads up fellas.

Whoops, I think I was off by $100. Dave's price sounds right.

Yes - they'll quote you $180+ but tell 'em you don't need "trim and molding" which will show up on their computer screen. You don't want their generic gasket. Spend the $ for an original Porsche gasket - you won't be sorry.

You can do this with just one cut and an easier one to boot. Get a big kitchen knife or long carpet knife and insert it between the windshield and the gasket. You will lay the knife onto the windshield, parallel to it's surface. Then cut towards the trim, at least as deep as the trim. You will have the inside rim of the gasket fall off together with the trim - voila!
