Post harness setup

I'm getting ready to order harnesses. I'm putting "H" harness on, anchored to the rear seat belt mounts. I think I want the snap in style kits. My question. What does the anchor end of the harness look like? I assume it has a metal end of some sort. If I get the "snap in" kit, will the end of the harness already have what I need to just snap it in.

Thanks,

Don

Hi Don,

I've only owned one set of racing harnesses (Sparco) so I can only tell you what I had. The harnesses had long tails with a metal buckle that you wrap around something and then thread back through the buckle. The something you wrap it around can be a roll bar, roll cage, harness bar, etc. I think the waist straps came with clips already assembled. You install eyelets in your car - they can thread into existing seat belt mounting holes or into a specially made backing plate (I used the backing plates). The metal clip hooks into these. The SCCA and FIA required safety wires on the metal clip to prevent them from coming open in an impact. Your experience may vary.

The clips are like little hooks with a spring loaded gate - somewhat like a carabiner. I had to order the threaded eyelets separately for mine. The place that supplied your harness should sell these.

Charlie

Most of the retailers like OG Racing will include the spring loaded fastners that clip into your eye bolts or anchors. In fact if you buy the whole setup from them, they will include all the hardware. www.ogracing.com Also, Brey Krause make some sweet anchors that will allow you to keep your stock seat belts. Just make sure the harness loops over a harness bar or the like, the belts must be close to 90 degrees to your shoulders. While your at it, go with the six point sub-belt which will mount under your front seat rails. You won't have to poke a hole in your floor and this will work with a stock seat.

I just got new Sabelt 5 points from Racer Wholesale for $109 each. I thought it was a bargain

go with the snap-in kind, they're much more conveinient. and keep with the plan of the rear seatbelt mounting, Much safer than the H-Bar.
