New shift coupler - loose?

I got "new" shift coupler from another source because of delivery times.

Is it "loose" from the factory? Between the two shift linkages and the transmission it moves about 1/8". But it doesn't twist at all. Is this factory?

Are you talking about a replacement coupler or just new bushings?
The replacement bushings I put in had the same loose fit and I ended up buying brass bushings from Pelican for a snug fit.

I got a complete shift coupler from Porsche a few years back. It had the same "looseness" as you describe.

Bummer, that's what I thought I was replacing in my bushing.

That is the exact reason I made my own out of Delrin.
All the new bushings have a little forward and back play.

The fore-aft clearance in the OEM bushings was "designed in" to reduce the transmission of noise and vibration into the car. It is not a defect in the bushings.

Are you sure it is not the shaft only that is moving somewhere i (trany play)? just did my bushings and coupler and also thought mine was loose, but it was the normal play of 1/8" in the rod that conects the coupler to the transmission.

The OEM is purposely loose as it serves to function as a cheap universal joint. If it were made tighter, like using brass bushings in the same design...it's not the same as using a "pure and proper" universal...

See here for more--> Shift coupler for 915?
