How to test......

Damian,

If your car would easily start at this time of the year, you can bet that your CSV is working. Inspect the CSV for fuel injection by removing from its mount and start the engine (ignition coil disabled). Check for power supply to CSV, ground is connected via the thermotime switch (located at left front side of the engine).

To test your WUR, you need a CIS fuel gauge kit. Determine your system fuel pressure, cold fuel presure to WUR, and compare to spec.

What is the problem your having?

Tony

The cold start circuit is comprised of circuit tracks #11 and #12 in the 'Starter' group in the diagram below. You can test the signals to the CSV in place or off the engine, and connected to the engine wiring harness, or weith connections broken. The Thermo-Time Switch and Start Valve can be tested separately, as well as looking for proper signals at the connectors.

1. If the Thermo-Time Switch provides a switched ground at terminal #W when the starter is cranking and temp at the left chain cover location is below 113°F, then it is OK. It should measure approx. 20 Ohms from terminal 'G' to ground [boby of the switch] ... which is the heating coil.

2. With Cold Start Valve removed and sitting in a clear glass jar ... crank engine over with CDI unit 6-pin connector removed. If you have +12 Volts from terminal #15a of the starter solenoid and switched ground from the Thermo-Time Switch, then the Cold Start Valve should produce a spray of gas. Likewise, the valve can be tested with 12 Volts applied to the valve via Micro-grabbers from a remotely switched cable ... if you are very, very CAREFUL!!!

ok think i found the thermotime switch and using a voltmeter using either + or - wire at first w/ignition on but motor off i would get reading of 10 to 15, but then a solid i think 13 or 14....then i turned the engine on after about 4 attempts, then it read 10-11.....
