That caveman interior is hideous! Otherwise a nice car. I'll get one in 10 years or so for autocrossing. Just pull the interior!

I took a Cayman S out for a test drive today while at the Audi dealership with some friends. Pretty sweet ride, seems a little underpowered at high speeds but is quick. Ride was nice - felt very Boxsterish - but tighter, which is good. The price was not good and I would have to get a trailer for a pair of sunglasses.

That "S" Pepperwagon is 115k and 0-60 at only 4.8? The Jeep SRT8 crushed the regular Cayenne Turbo in all categories - the 30k premium for the S lets you run with the Jeep SRT8.

What is the guage on the center of the dash?

Nolift911, clue me in on the "trailer" analogy. I must be slow today.

No space - tight. I am not a big guy and my Carrera feels spacious on the interior in comparison. I didn't fit real well in there at 5'11 155lbs.

Gauge is a clock/stopwatch ala Carrera...

I drove one at the dealer today also. They were so swamped they just handed out keys and let people go solo!!! It really has another gear at about 4K RPM, just takes off. Plenty fast for me. Much tighter than the 997. There was alot of people there that apeared to be "buyers" who were not hard cores. I think they will sell them in a few months. The ride is much stiffer and there is alot more interior noise than I remember in the 997. Its like when I give rides in my old buck board 73 911, people always think it will be more luxurious than it is, same with the Cayman, people who are not "hard cores" will grow tired of the ride. I think it is great, the Cayman is really an enthusiasts car.

funny note, there was a guy there with a new Z06, it looked really ......pathetic next to all of the shiny german metal. I usually lean more toward performance than aesthetics but the 997 looks like it would squash the vett. Probably buy the new Z06 though if I was in that tax bracket :-))

Thanks for the report EW. Sounds like we will have plenty of nice Caymen to choose from once the wine and cheese crowd took the depreciation hit and gets tired of them! It is not a 911, so the bottom will fall out quickly!

I just hope people will finally quit buying them in silver and go back to plain and bright colors. Of course, by the time I get my hands on one of them it will need paint anyway.

There are plenty of Boxsters running around now for $19,800 and $24,800 etc...if there are Cayman in a few years at that price, you can bet I'll be in one, grinning like a moron from ear to ear...

They are not going to build nearly as many so I would think depreciation will be less severe, but who knows, definitely a smaller pool of buyers. Hopefully this hole Water cooled reliability, crank shaft walking thing will have run its course and we will know what to expect in terms of reliability.

How long until Ruf, Champion, etc get their hands on a Cayman to tune?

Yes, yes! My ten year plan has shifted from bagging a babied Boxster to snapping up a Cayman....

In person, I was struck by how much the rear quarter panels resemble the 550 Spyder, kind of muscular tail fins. I haven't heard the reviewers squawk about this subtle "heritage" incorporation - it's very cool.

Also, I'm siding with Porsche on the power plant - they can't very well slam a CGT V10 in every car.... or could they....?

Touched one!

I been meaning to post a topic on this as well...we got the cayman s at the Porsche dealership where I work....It was limited to 22 miles per hour. I looked it all over inside and out.....touched it and thats about as far as I am going with the cayman. But most importantly! Where does this fit into the "Porsche Wave- Ten simple Rules?

Interesting...I'm 5'-11" and about 220 lbs...it felt perfect to me. Intimate, yes...but perfect.

Intimate - that is one way to put it. It was very similar fitment wise to the Boxster. After spending a few days driving one of those around I had had enough of intimacy. I had a Toyota 4X4 back in the day with the seat pressed up against the rear part of the cab - intimate? Nah - that was just plain cramped and small. Maybe that is my hangup, intimacy is for chicks not cars.

To each their own...I'm just giving a different perspective. I've been perfecty comfortable in my two Boxsters, including on numerous 5 hour trips up Nort to visit family, and one mulit-day trip to Florida. We were perfectly comfortable the whole way. (Admittedly, on the Fla trip I was about 20lbs lighter. )

...but I'll respectfully dissagree with your comment about intimacy being reserved for girlfriends. I think thats all a part of driving a sports car. If you want space, drive a Buick.

I'll settle for the intimate car. My wife wouldn't like me getting intimate with the Chicks.

Roger that - but I wouldn't call a Carrera a buick and that has great space, plenty for me. Of course having a sports car and a utility vehicle is the best of both worlds - kinda like having a wife and a girlfriend...

I agree with what has been said about letting these Cayman's depreciate a bit and then maybe pick one up. But, they are going to need to move quick to make any kind of sense. Hard for me to justify one of them, when I see what I can buy a used Boxster S for. I have a buddy who just picked up a 2001 Boxster S for $25.5k and with only 24k miles. Seal Gray with 18" Turbo twists. What is that, about a $40k savings for a very subtle difference in performance? Just my .02....
One more thing. What do you guys think of the fog light setup? Looks like an afterthought and a litttle too ricey for me.

Bryan
