Question Momo knob question

I installed my new Momo Race knob last night and ran into a bit of a problem. The 3 set screws that hold the knob on interfere with the sleeve or bezel piece which is supposed to screw on to the end of the knob to cover the set screws. This happens even without using any of the supplied rubber things that go between the knob and the shifter. The set screws stick out a little. Any one else run into this? Whats the fix?

Thanks,
Mike

Do all the screws stick out?
I've run into one that will stick out. Then all you'd have to so is loosen up the other two and screw in the one sticking out. Just keep adjusting it till all three are set in. Then put on the cover piece.

Yes. They all stick out the same amount. I already went through the adjustment process to get them even. I am considering taking out 1 screw and just use 2. This might move it to on side slightly and allow the other 2 screws to be flush? Just wondering if anyone else had to do this
or somthing else to get it to fit.

Is this your '85 you are working on?

Shifter down to metal? No plastic leftover or crush sleeve, etc on it?

Shift knob, same thing? Absolutely nothing in it like those plastic spacers, paper, etc...

Is the knob supposed to fit your car? (Diameter of the shifter)

If you don't have ANYTHING in the way and it's supposed to fit I don't know what is happening here. I never had that problem. Sorry, that's all I can come up with.

Your '85 should use a "crush sleeve" but either way should work.

I would use all three screws. Those little allen head screws are pretty deep. So as a LAST RESORT you could cut off or grind down the screws to make them work.

Something else if this is what you are doing. Use the blue thread locker on the set screws otherwise the knob can loosen up. So keep the allen wrench in the car in case this happens.

Let me know what you come up with.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the Blue thread lock tip- Yes, its the '85, Down to metal on the shifter, no crush sleeve, nothing in the knob , not using the spacers. As far as the knob is concerned, I did not measure the shifter and compare to the specs for the knob, but it is a Momo Race knob which seems to be pretty popular on this board, thats why I did not measure it.
Also the knob fits over the shifter without any interference, so the screws should work, but they dont, they just seem a little long. I will take another look at it tonight. Thanks for the help.

I recall that when I purchased my MOMO Anatomico knob, (years ago now) it came boxed with some rubber adapters and two sets of set screws - short & long.
i used the short ones on my early shift lever.

You may be able to locate shorter set screws, if none were includsed. Doubtful they can be successfully shortened, and retain the pointed tip used to lock knob in place...

at any rate, good luck.

Don't shorten on the tip end. Shorten from the head end that way you don't lose the tip to secure the knob. That's what I meant anyways, sorry for any confusion.

I just installed that knob not too long ago and IIRC I also had a choice between long and short screws. It sounds like you are missing one set of screws.

Thanks Chuck and Bill ! I will double check tonight for those short screws. I am pretty sure they were not included though. Might have to see if I can buy shorter ones or grind them down a bit.....
