96 miles of twisties: Pics

Did a run up Palomar mt this morning.

Mouth awake with Hawaiian coffee and jalapeno creamcheese, I set off...

Destination on the horizon

Stop for a foto in a lemon grove.

Into the tight twisties

An amazingly clear day in Socal, Pacific visible in the distance

At the top by the Hale Observatory. a 200 inch telescope is in the main dome.

The small bldg to the side is an interferometer. It...uhh...interferomates things.

Past the halfway mark

Art shot, almost home...

It was a great drive, with perfect weather. I hacked the tripmeter at the first turn. It said 96 when I got back to the flats. I hope this helps keep our snowbound midwest brothers a little warmer. Cheers gang!

Thanks for the help on cheering up your Midwest snowbound brethren. While I'm by no means snowbound, living on the east coast in northern VA, its no way southern California.

I moved to the DC area from Oceanside in 1995. While there, we took many a trip up to Palomar on Sundays in the 1967 912 I owned then and it was rejuvenating to see your pictures. Last time I made the drive, there was snow up there. After throwing a few snowballs at some trees and each other, my wife and I scooted down the moutain back to Oceanside and hit the beach to put our feet in the ocean. From snow to beach all in the same day - you gotta love that SOCAL sun.

Thanks,

Gorgeous car buddy! I'll have to try that drive one of these days.

Are you planning to make our little get-together tomorrow morning?

Wow! Fantastic pics. I've never done that run in my p-car and have always wanted to. We'll have to see if we can get another run together at some point. You've got a great car too. Thanks.

I think the cool weather keeps the traffic down, cuz there was none. We should get an SOCG run up there sometime. Probably 45 minutes from the bottom of Ortega till the good stuff starts.

So how much jalapeno creamcheese do you want for that car? Very nice.

"interferometer. It...uhh...interferomates things"

hahaha -- companies are now using laser interferometers to measure cone breakup in speakers for your stereo -- as long as you buy the $1,500 speakers. Instrumentation gets cheaper over time...

Thanks for posting. I really envy your nice climate. Those pics cheered me up a bit. Longing for spring here in Sweden. It was 10 degrees below zero this morning. Dark and snowy driving to work.

H sushinav:

I have a friend looking for a car much like what you have - late Carrera and the backdating doesn't hurt. Can you PM me the details (price, etc., modifications, mileage)? My friend is in L.A., and very eager to pick up a 911 and unload his S2000.

Thanks.

I used to use an interferometer back in the 80s and 90s. That installation would most likely been married up with another building. Many interferometers are in use in CA setup on each side of fault lines, measuring the amount the faults move. Have you ever wondered how they determine how much one side moves?
