Monty muffler vs Dansk 2-2

Converting my exhaust on 1979 SC to SSI exchangers and muffler 2-in-2-out. Trying to campare which 2-2 better. Was told go with Monty, because it made from stainless steel and a bit quieter that Dansk. I am not looking to get extra horsepower. The reason why I want 2-2 is because my car is wide body and I have 345/35/15 tires. The car looks very muscular. 2-2 will be the best way to go. Definetly I want a bit quieter. Anyone heard both of them and what is your opinion on them?

What other brands you prefer 2-2 that is not to loud, means not to wake up the whole neighborhood. Thank you in advance.

I have a dual out Monty on my 87 Carrera wide-body. Very well made. I think the sound is just the right balance, not too loud but a sound that complements the look. Wide-body cars, Imho look very good with dual out pipes Mark

Thumbs up Dansk single out was loud enough

On my '78 SC hot rod engine rebuild the mechanic advised to go with the single out-- though I had my heart set on the dual for the looks and hoped for power.

He was right: the single had a great sound for the six but didn't drone on the highway and was best for a daily driver. I'm glad I took his advice.

I have a Monty 2/2 on my SC with the 100mm (i think) tips. I think I am one of the few at the track with it and it still turns heads when I crank it up in the garages. a very unique sound. Not raspy at all, deep idle burble with a very deep throat but sings at a full throttle blasts. I have been very happy with it. i don't think you will be disappointed.

monty is a better muffler. I would advise in single out in any aftermarket muffler as any dual outs will drone a tad. Some make push in caps so that you can block one outlet to keep any drone at bay. Most dual outs are about 8-10 dbs louder then single outlets

MW4904 where did you buy yours and how much was it?

Scotitude - I was also told that Monty has a unique sound. Currently I have some aftermarket muffler, I don't even know the brand. It's very loud and doesn't even have that aggresive sound. I notes that not a lot of company's carries them.

Ya know...., Ben, MB911, who posted above makes one heck of a stainless muffer. While I do not have one, his products have received rave reviews. Plus he is a stand-up gentleman, note that he did not even attempt to promote his own product. Just a thought.

Ok Ben. That's a pretty firm statement. Let's hear the facts you base that comment/opinion on.

I wanted ear candy and reduced all of them, prior to mb911's muffler, to either a Dansk or a Monty. About 20 listenings later I went for the Monty.

It's a personal thing and was a difficult decision as the Dansk and Monty tunes were very special.

I would seriously look at Ben's mufflers.

You can't beat the price. They are made out of very good grade stainless steel (321). ANd they're very light. I just installed a 1 out on my car, so a two out may be a bit louder, but the sound is perfect. Not too loud for everyday driving, but once the tach gets to around 4500, you know it's there. A really sweet sounding muffler. JMO.

sorry I just have seen both; cut apart a couple; and feel build quality is better on the monty. No offense in fact I have dansk stainless exchangers on my car so I am not anti dansk just feel in this comparison monty is better built part.

I have had both a Dansk 2 in/1 out muffler and a Dansk 2 in/2 out performance muffler on my car. I was/am very happy with both, though I prefer the slightly louder sound of the 2 out. The fit was perfect, though you must be very careful to buy the correct model when you convert an SC to SSI's. Go to a PCA autocross to see and hear the different mufflers.

arsenty,

What factors did you consider in narrowing your list? I will need a new muffler before long, and have been very impressed with the Fabspeed. I am curious as to why their products didn't make the cut.

Are there any sound clips and cutaway videos of the Monty? I have heard the Dansk, and the sound is fantastic. Do either of your chosen manufacturers make a dual cat, emissions legal version that still offers good flow characteristics?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

I am still debating but leaning toward the Monty muffler. Regarding Fabspeed they are great, but they are bit louder for me than Dansk or Monty. I spoke to the Porsche dealer and he did mention that Fabspeed are excellent performance muffler. He recomended me to go with Dansk, because I did not want anything very loud.

Dansk mufflers are also great mufflers. Spoke to few people who had both Dansk and Monty, for some reason they prefered Monty. I know people have their own preferences and I am not trying to put either manufacturer down. I think both product are excellent.

Funny, My mechanic said one of his customer replaced his muffler 4 times because it was to loud for him. He doesn't remember what the guy ended up with but told me to do research otherwise I will eneded up like his other customer.

I haven't heard of any Monty's blowing out seams in a few thousand miles of driving.

Somebody else reported the same seam leaks in their Dansk in this thread.

I'm not impressed with this kind of build quality myself.

Superior build quality and non-annoying sound. I like mine (beisdes the huge 100mm tip - but I got it for a steal!)
