Sorry to hear that, Kirk. I know you must be eager to plate it & drive.

I had a feeling it might not pass with the missing cat. I wonder if a small tweak of the mixture would help?
Do you know anything about that "Guaranteed to Pass" or whatever it is called liquid you add to the fuel? Know of any "understanding" testers in the GTA? Kirk

No. I used one that G Tech sent my car to. You could call them.

Kirk,
The guys at Mantis motorsports in Oakville are really good about stuff. Ernie is a great guy. I'll be there on Wed AM getting my car aligned. I have a stock exhaust and cat if you need to bolt it on for the test.

I don't imagine that would be a quick swap! I wonder if he could adjust it to pass?

I spent several hours and about $100 bucks testing and retesting to pass emissions. Eventually threw on a cat in less than 1 hour and passed with flying colors. If you have one to borrow at no charge I think it's a no brainer. The cat is very good with HC.

I would gladly throw on a cat, but I'm not sure where to find one!

Kirk,
It's about one hour or so to change out your muffler&cat. Jack up the car, take off the bumper, and start removing the muffler/cat. I had to do it when I put on my B&B exhaust. Wasn't long, in fact here's a picture in the making.. ![]()

If you need a stock exhaust and Cat, you can borrow mine to simply bolt on for the test. SHort of that, seeing as you are in Burlington, you may want to drop into Mantis and see what they can possibly do for you.
Just as a reference, my car failed 3 times before it passed, and it was staock except for the air injection system having been removed.

Kirk,
Aside from getting the car to pass emissions, by borrowing a cat and installing it temporarily (and make sure it is fully warmed up whem you test it) I'd suggest having your favorite shop adjust your idle and CO, which are both out of spec. Make sure the ignition system is up to par too. Even without a cat, your HC should be less than 300ppm. JR |

Mark,
Thanks for the offer. I may well take you up on it. I'm familiar with Mantis. I took a 928 I used to have to them a few times many years ago. I haven't used them lately because the mechanic I use now is literally within walking distance from my office. Kirk

No worries, just let me know. If you need to get a hold of me call me on my cell (416) 629.1573. As I mentionned, I'll be out that way tomorrow and can bring it with me providing it fits inside the car (wrapped in a towel). Otherwise, I live in the beaches, and you are welcome to come and pick it up.
I don't typically bring my cars to any shops, I learned my lesson, an dI am fairly proficient myself (it's not rocket science). I've gotten to know Ernie through some common friends and he truelly is a good guy. I bring it into a shop for stuff I cannot do myself (like Wheel alignments, tire replacements, etc.) Let me know.

Great news Kirk. I'm glad that you made the 'necessary adjustments' to bring it to spec.
