After market FLAT FAN options?
I was wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket flat fan assembly? Either gear and belt driven like the original or perhaps electric.

for a 911 or a Type IV motor?
Stay away from the electric fans, had one from air cooled classics on my 914 2.5 engine in a 550 spyder. It kept the engine cool enough for a drag run, but that was about it. Also, I believe Chris @ tangerine racing (search 914club.com) has a corvair style one that works.

Do a search, I remember reading a thread about it.
I think the conclusion was that it was really difficult to make one.

Nice. I too would like more information. Seems like the gear drive should be enclosed and fully lubricated. Maybe it is.

I sort of have to take a step back when I see this, because many people in my Corvair circle want to set up fans like a 911, and here we go with 911 owners wanting a Corvair-like setip. It's OK, I like 'em all.

Here's an English version for a VW engine that looks as though it could be adapted for a 6.
The 964RS and the 356Carrera Replica

JWerion...not aftermarket but OE Porsche, still avail from the race parts div -Werkes 2, accross the street in Stuttgart from the main plant. This unit is lubricated off of the OP galley, has a greater airflow delivery ratio (compared to the earlier units) for excellent engine cooling and is tried and true.
I use a horiz fan unit is on my six. The cooling airflow rate @ 8,000 rpm is 1,400 litres per sec, while the fan is only turning 7,000 rpm . These are P factory specs--PM me if you want them emailed to you, as this BB can't load up the jpeg ![]() Marty

Can someone explain the pros/cons of a horizontal fan? Why did Porsche equip the street cars with vertical fans?

Marty, I have sent you a PM
Your motor looks fantastic. May I ask what the flat fan system cost?

Gon fix it with me hammer

Quote:
the flat fan robbs more power from the engine it wasn't a problem for hte 935's because they produce such large amounts of power anyway but on a street engine , you'de notice also , production cost, flat fan needs gears , the normal one does not, just needs a belt.

What about a couple small electric fans on the deck lid to pull more air in? Leave the engine setup the same and just add a couple of fans. I deleted my AC system so the engine grill is just open I thought a couple of electric fans mounted in the inside like the condenser was would cool the motor even better. Has anyone done this?
