Interesting 911 Fixer in Colorado

From craigslist:

http://denver.craigslist.org/car/127937897.html

A subsequent ad posted by seller has price down to $7000 and looks like he could go lower, I have no affiliation etc.

$9000 for a 1980 SC with a bad motor, is he on drugs? How about $3-4K TOPS!

Gary-he is asking $7000 now and I am guessing he would take less.

< $7000 isn't bad if all it requires is head work. It all depends on the interior, paint etc. If everything else is good and you have not other damage minus the head, it wouldn't be a bad deal for someone who can do the work themselves.

If the guy's putting in the ad the estimate for the rebuild was $4,000 - $7,000, I think we can all guess which number it's closer to. Plenty of other solid SC's out there that won't cripple your checkbook. Keep looking...

I know this car, I was talking to my mechanic today here in CO, he is interested in this car himself. The seller purchased the car on Ebay with an "oil leak" and then found the valve issue. My mechanic said he would be doing a complete top end on it if he purchased it.

Another ebay victim. Yikes. Has anyone found anything but pain and headaches buying a used 911 via ebay?

We bought a 911 roller off e-bay. 1980 steel slantnose cabriolet. Bought it from Broadfoot Racing in Floriday (very very nice people). The car was EXACTLY as described and I'd buy another from the Broadbents. We've actually bought 2 cars off ebay, both were as we expected them. Most people who sell on ebay are decent people, but got to admit, when you get hosed, you get hosed BIG time... angela

It does have some nice stuff on it but $5k tops and only if you can do the work yourself....then it is a good deal.

As a frame of reference, I bought a 78sc with a 85 3.2 in it (great compression and leak down) for $5700

PS. Eurosport has done some work for me in the past....good guys

Dude (we say that in CA), that's not a point of reference, that's the steal of the century. How long did you have to hold the open flame under the seller's toes to get that price?

Yes, I bought a 993 sight-unseen from out of state and it was better than represented at below-market price. It's not always bad news...

Dude....(I can say that, I grew up in S. Ca), I just got lucky.

I was looking for an SC to turn into a track car. He was asking $7500. When I saw it, I want to cry.....mirror hanging off, mirrored tint from the 70's dirty interior, so so paint etc. He had little to no records. I was walking when he offered to PPI it for me. He did and it came back with less than 5% leakdown, mid 150 compression etc. The PPI said a possible clutch was due so I used that to take him from $7500 to $5700.

The clutch ended up needing a cable adjustment
