Spacers advice needed. Here's some pics of my 911

Hello all,

I am thinking of putting some spacers on the fronts AND backs of my 911 SC with 3,2 engine. Car has 7x16 front and 9x16 rear original Fuchs on a narrow body. Car is also lowered as you can see from the pics.

Now to the question:
What is the safe size of spacers so I get a better stance without rubbing ? Was thinking about 5 or 7mm (2-2.80'') front and 10-12mm (4 to 4.8") on the back ones. Is that two wide you reckon ?

YES I searched the archives, but none had tried 9x16 fuchs with spacers

Your math is lousy.....

I run stock Fuchs 911-offset 7" in front...without spacers. Tight. I can't imagine any meaningful spacers to use when fitting 7" front and 9" rear. Fuchs 9" rear is also tight..right on the edge, without spacers. Spacers are often used ( for example, in the rear) when you have less than 9" Fuchs.

There are 25.4 mm per inch....did you mean to say 50-70mm front and 100-120 mm rear ??

spacers?

Those wheels seem to fill out the fenders just fine. Does not look like you need any spacers to me.

I obviously meant 5mm up front and 10mm rears. There seems to be this amount of gap between wheel and fender

You'll probably have to experiment to see exactly what would work on your car. Each car is slightly different and you're down to the point where a few mm either way is going to make a difference.

I recently went from 275/40-17s to 255/40-17s in the rear of my car and I think it looks kinda funny - there is a much bigger gap between the tire and fender lip than there used to be. I could probably use a 10mm spacer, too. :>)

Depends a lot on your camber settings and tyre size. I run 7/9x16s for the track with 225/50 and 245/45 tyres. On the rear, I run 14mm of spacers (2 x 7mm shims) and at the front I have a 5mm bearing spacer due to running 964/951 brakes. This is a really tight fit all round with neg 1.8 degrees camber front and neg 2.5 degrees camber rear. Its actually so tight at the front that I am trying to dial in a little more neg camber to get more clearance. I have longer wheel studs and open backed steel lug nuts so I can play around with spacers as much as I like and this combo - 5mm / 14mm - is the most I can run without rubbing on my car.

The people saying you can't run spacers with the 9s probably have less than 1 degree of neg camber in the rear. FWIW, I don't think you need any spacers in the front and I would try a 7mm shim in the rear and see how you like the look. For up to 7mm shims, you will not need to change to longer studs etc.

Here is mine - the front tyres are 225/45s in this picture:

Hi Richard

Nice lookin 911 you have there, I really like how the wheels look in the wheel arches. G reg 3.2, must have been the last of the last or an import.

I would love to hear more about your track experience(where and when etc) and setting up of the 911, i'm new to the area (Berkshire) and looking for some local 911 knowledge.

I'm almost done with my 3.6 transplant into my 3.2 and hope to turn the key over the next few days so once im running it would be great to maybe hook up?

cheers and good luck with the track-stuff

PS sorry for the thread hijack

7mm is hardly worth doing. That's about 1/4" and you'd never notice the difference!

Richard
excellent information. Thats what I was looking for.
I think I'll start with 7mm on the back. I run -1deg front and -2deg rear.

BTW what are those tires on your car ? Yokos???

Dave what would you use as a minimum size for the back without having to change studs ?

I don't think that's a wide body look. Just has the sticker on the side front of the rear wheelwells. However it does look good even if it is a narrow body.

I would use the spacers that come with their own integrated studs. I've seen them up to 2" thick. I would suggest at least 1/2", perhaps 3/4" or 1", whatever you can fit without rubbing your fenders. make sure you get the hub-centric ones.

But you don't want to track the car with those kind of spacers. Street only.
