4 Spoke vs. 3 Spoke

OK, so what is so great about the 4 spoke wheel?

I had the 4 spoke in my 87 as stock, but aesthetically, I never liked the design. Stock, it seemed very thin and wimpy compared to the covered 3 spoke in my SC.

I hear you, Ian.

Myself, I am very fond of both. Mine had an aftermarket item. Ugly. Pretentious. Found a nice 4-spoke original. Very pleased. The 3-spoke looks perhaps a bit more "the business", sporty - yes I would have picked it if originally supplied with my model.

How is the chipping comin´along, then ?

ianc,

The PO of my car replaced the 4-spoke with a 3-spoke. While I like the 3 better than the 4, I have arranged to buy a 4. Thought it would be a good idea to have original items on hand for everything that's been changed - should I ever decide to sell or have the 3-spoke refurbished.

Yeah, I still have the 4 spoke. One thing I found a little odd but I could not put my finger on when I got the Carrera was that it seemed more difficult to flick the directionals on and off with my fingers. When I took the 4 spoke off, I saw why: there's a hub added to it about 3.5 cm long. It bolts on with 3 10 mm bolts and cannot be mounted on the 3 spoke. It brings the wheel out toward you, but it's less convenient to actuate the stalk switches though.

Markus, sadly I'm looking at 2 new rear tires in the near future, so that will suck up the $300 I could have donated to the Steve Wong fund.
