993 Cabriolet Control Unit Location?
 

I am ready to replace this, but none of my docs tells me where to find it! Anyone know?

It's mounted to the underside of the dash in the driver's side footwell. Before you drop $300-$400 on a replacement unit, I suggest grabbing a soldering iron and simply touching up any joints that look a little funny, like a hairline ring around them. It worked for me and for some others who have posted about this on Rennlist

Thanks Eric, I just took a look in that location and the unit wasn't obvious. It is buried back there?

Oddly enough, I have 993.641.330.00 under the dash, which is the control unit for a targa... No, I don't have a targa :) - but in PET it appers to show that you have either 993.618.313 (as part 5) or another control unit (shown as 5a in the diagram) if you are not in a cabrio.

I have line 5A in the car, but I was expecting 5...

I'm not familiar with the 993, but on my 86, it is mounted on the backside of the passenger side plywood floor.

I got it out and took a look inside it. Found one questionable bridge on the PC board and fixed that - but the top still would not operate. Replaced with my new ebay controller and the top is working.

I'll keep the original for now on the shelf. But I needed to get this working to sell the car.
