K27 upgrade - any gotchas?

Just checking. I'm upgrading my standard 930 3LDZ turbo to a K27-7200. Does anyone know of anything I should look out for?

I thought I might have seen something related to the oil drain line size but can't find anything on it. Maybe it was related to another issue. This will be using the regular 930 scavenge pump and lines.

Many thanks,
Mike

Shouldn't be any issues....the turbo sump should bolt right up. The oil inlet feed should be the same fitting size. The mounting flange to the heat exchangers/headers is the same. The only other thing would be to check the cold side of the turbo outlet and compare it to the 3ldz outlet. You want to make sure they have the same type of neck so the up pipe to the intercooler will fit properly.

Also, the turbo support bracket that's on the exhaust side of the turbo charger (it's the bracket that's installed before the exhaust is bolted to the turbo and bolts underneath the crank pulley) often times won't line up correctly even if the turbo is "clocked" properly. Some guys leave it off all together, others modify it to fit. I left mine off and let my B&B muffler bracket help with the weight support...probably not ideal. On my build I'm running a "zork" tube, so that will help eliminate some of the weight on the turbo.

My k27 came with an adapter on the neck that feeds the intercooler. I have an extra if you need it.

Did you consider the K27 HF or HFs?

Thanks sand_man, I'm using one of Albert's (goingsuperfast) intercoolers and a 3.2 intake so with a little bit of silicon interconnect I think I'm ok on the up pipe. Good info on the turbo support bracket.

WERK-I, great! That is exactly what I wanted to know.

Lukeh - I did covet the HF and HFs. Much better than the 7200, but my budget and 915 transmission told me to resist.

Thanks guys!!! Great help and I appreciate it a lot.
Mike
