Sound when Pulling up Heat Flow Handles?
On my 87 Carrera Targa, when I pull the red floor handles to heat up the interior, I hear at startup, a "trumpet" sound when the valve opens or motor engages???
Can I lube that part so it's silent at startup??? Thanks in advance... Patrick |
Is it coming from one of the front kick panels? If so, one of your footwell blowers has bad bearings. You can pull it out and spray it with a little lube, but that is only a temporary solution. In the end you will need a new/used footwell blower.

But maybe not that soon. Mine have been making the stuck pig squeal on startup since, I think, 2002. But they still blow.

Time to grease the pig, my footwell motors made the same noise, oil them good bench test with 12v and oil them more.

Thanks for the info...
Ya, it's not a big deal.. just wondering what it's source was.... only squeals for a few seconds.. my g/f get's a kick out of all the sounds and smells the car produces.... That's what adds to the car's character.. it has plenty of that, and is the best daily driver I've ever had... really enjoy the Sunday drives around the SM mountains... got a strong motor and the new clutch job makes shifts crisp and smooth... These cars kick ass!!!! The essence of a Sports car! |
On my car it was the big blower motor in the engine compartment - but it stayed loud. I did the same thing though, took out the motor and lubed the shaft - only the one side that I could get to - and bench tested it. It is quiet for now.

Ya, it's the left front dash area around footwell that I hear the squeal.. will pull out the motor and oil the sucker...
