AM Radio Reception with Sigla Embedded Antenna?

I have an Alpine AM/FM stereo in my 911, and FM works great, but AM reception is almost non-existant...
Just got new Sigla windshield installed with embedded antenna... is there a separate lead for an AM antenna???
AM still works for traffic reports!

ackkk...

The same antenna amplifier is for both AM and FM. You did hook up the amplifier to the correct power wire didn't you? If you did then that is all the better it gets.

Hey Kurt,
I bought the last summer with the Alpine installed, and it had the same problem... FM is clear as a bell, but when I switch to AM, it doesn't even pull in 50K watt stations in LA... so should I check the power amp leads? Thanks for the input...

Rennlist has this article which discusses improving radio reception on 924, 944 and 968 Porsches. Maybe it will help. SmileWavy

I have the same problem!

I was probably told a BS story.... My prior radio was a 6 year old Kenwood Deck. New one installed about 6 months ago is a Pioneer. Tech told me that the newer decks have all decreased performance on their AM bands. Said that because they are virtually doing away with AM radio in the next 2 years. Also said that AM reception with a standard car antena on the new decks is also very bad?.... Tell me they are wrong... Please! I'm open to suggestions for improving reception as well, short of adding a conventional antenna. I too have the antenna in the windshield...

Spec, I had the same question a few months ago and got a bunch of replies on it - try a search using my screen name and link to the AM radio thread. BTW, I haven't fixed my radio yet as the car is in storage, but I recall the mention of an amplified antenna lead that may not have been hooked up by Best Buy. Oh, and trust me, AM radio will not be phased out in two years - the superior range (at low power output) of amplitude modulation ensures it will be used for commercial and amateur radio forever. But there is a lot of stuff on Sirius, if you want to pay for it!
