Shocking Discovery in Bruce Anderson 911 Performance Handbook
 

OK, I have been a very big fan of the classic “911 Performance Handbook” by the venerable Bruce Anderson. I bought the first edition in 1989, and did my best to memorize the entire book. Stared at the pics for hours on end, and used the book as a reference guide in building my 911 racecars.
I recently decided to upgrade my library, in preparation for the rebuild/upgrade of my 3.6 in the ’87. I ordered Wayne’s engine rebuild book (looks great so far) and the 2nd edition (from 1996) of the Bruce Bible. Got them the other day and started reading away. I paid more attention to Wayne’s book since that was really “new” to me.
So last night I picked up the Bruce Bible and started to thumb through it. Then I went back to the front cover and started to look at all the beautiful cars in Jim Newton’s shop. Since this is the only color area (front and back cover) and it had been updated I was curious about the cars in the pic. I know Jim’s customers well over the years from PCA Club Racing, which I used to participate in quite often. Looking at the cover, I was drawn to the car in the center of the image, an orange/red RSR replica. Suddenly the hair on the back of my neck stood up straight…

The smokin’ hot cover RSR was a car that I built and raced in PCA racing for years. WHOA! The room swirled around me and I was struck dumb for a moment. Then a huge grin appeared on my face. MY car was on the cover of the Bruce Bible, and had been there for 10 years!!! Sure, it had been repainted abd the removable rear fenders glassed in by Jim's shop after I sold it to Mike Trombly, my regular nemesis in class B2 of Club Racing. But otherwise it was the same car that I built myself in the home garage with much blood, sweat and a few tears (from the expensive parts…)! Same wings, engine, suspension, roll cage, etc. Like the Grinch, my heart suddenly became three sizes larger with pride!

So of course I had to tell somebody. So here I am, feeling quite full of myself, and a bit sheepish that it took me 10 years to notice this.

Must have been a great feeling you'll remember forever. I hadn't picked up the book for about 2 years and just had it out earlier this evening. I'd forgotten how comprehensive it is!!!!!!

No that is what I call a remote mounted oil filter! :D

Yes, that is a giant FRAM racing filter and mount from the circle track store that I placed _before_ the oil coolers to trap any bad stuff from the oil scavenge side (having had the unfortunate experience of an engine letting go - twice). I didn't have to test it on this car :)
