77 911s problems

Hi my names Ryan im new to the board. Its a 911 Targa S and it has about 85k miles. The problem is that when you drive the car somewhere or have the car warm up and park it for about 30 minutes, the car wont start again till its dead cold. The engine will turn but the car will not start. Do you guys know how to fix this problem or what to replace?

thanks
Ryan

I searched a bit before posting but all ive seen is the thermal reactor replacement thing. I dont think i can really do that since im in California. My dad says he changed the fuel accumulator 2 years back. Should i purchase another one?

I had a 1976 Super Beetle that did not start when hot/warmed up. I never fixed it - think it was alleged to be the solenoid on the starter heating up. Never knew for sure, there was no cranking at all - a click if I were lucky.

On my 1977 911s I had a warm starting problem that seemed to go away when I re-glued the pop-off valve in the airbox. All it would do is keep cranking but never turn over.

I also shorty thereafter changed the points to magnetic pick-up system by Pertronix (Ignitor kit).

Could be part of the CIS vacuum system - lots of threads on that issue.

Your symptoms are consistant with fuel accumulator and/or fuel pump check valve problems.

I don't understand, is "fuel pump" a seperate issue from "check valve" or am I reading this wrong?

That depends on the type of pump some do not have a separate check valve, others have a check valve bolted on to the end of the pump outlet.

However as it relates to this thread, you can have issues when the pump is hot it stops working at the correct system pressure. Also as far as checking the accumulator, hook a set of CIS gauges up and check the pressure leak down after it's warmed up and you shut the car off. You drop to zero PSI pretty quick if the accumulator is shot.
