Heater levers won't stay up
My heater levers won't stay up. Read something about friction disk but have not been able to find them. I have tried to tighten the bolt. Cold start will stay where I put it. Any ideas?

From your reference to "cold start" (hand throttle?), I'm guessing you have an earlier car. In any case, there should be washers. It's hard to give you a part number without more info, but have you tried the online parts catalog? The exploded diagram and parts references should be under the transmission, throttle assemblies.

You should be able to tighten the nuts on the shaft that the levers pivot on. There should be a friction disc on either side of each lever.

is this a new car? did the problem just start all of a sudden? i agree with the others as i've removed this assembly several times..friction discs and nuts to tighten down on the thru bolt. as a matter of fact, the last time i worked in this area, i tightened the nut on the hand throttle side a little too much and it was difficult to move..the cold weather has made it a little easier to move though..

Thanks guys. Yes its a 75 silver anniversary. I tried to tighten them up and no help. Wondering if someone left the disk out. Its a manual heater set up. I checked the online once but will try again. Many thanks.

I hate to say it but its in the shop right now. I will check. Got the car couple of months ago and have a great wrench here in Columbus, Georgia. Guy used to among other things race Porsches in Germany about 35 40 years ago. Best old porsche guy around for many many miles. Anyway, he will not take on new customers and I had not seen him in a few years so I took it in, well, car had to have an appointment, waited about a month and got it in. I wanted someone who is a master with porsches to go over it to get a base line I guess. I for sure wanted him to look over the CIS. Thanks

Schamp,
I just order a friction washer (amoung other things). Here is the part # 911-424-737-00-OEM. I was going to send you a link for where I found the part on the web site, but I couldn't find it. It isn't in the heater section. There are four washers, one on each side of the levers. I dropped one, it's somewhere under the shift rod. Even without the washers, you should be able to tighten the bolt up 'til nothin' moves. The nut/ bolt might be stripped and not tightening up. Good luck. Mike

schamp,
baselining your car is excellent..more new 911 owners on this board (especially with cis) should consider doing so..it would eliminate so much of the guesswork and parts buying (sorry wayne..lol) many of the newbies here go through. very refreshing..you'll be confident that your mixture, timing, etc. and correct right off the bat. ryan

Thanks Ryan. Turns out fuel pressure was a little low and changing the fuel filter makes alot of difference. Had front brakes done, needed new rotors, and will get her back tomorrow. I ordered the friction disks and will put those in when they get here. I recently got a new digital camera and will try and get a few pics uploaded soon. Thanks.

schamp,
cool..look forward to seeing your car. nice to hear someone relatively new here and with it 'all together'..and a middie owner, too. interesting collection of automobiles you've got. is the greyhound the old kind that has almost a higher deck? i know the lincoln doesn't have suicide doors, but pics of it would be cool as well..(we'll forgive the bmw ) ha!ryan

Well, yes the Lincoln does have the suicide doors. Last year was 69. My father and I flew to Detroit and drove it home. Frank Zimmerman is an old family friend and set us up with the Lincoln. He was head of Fords race team at the time I believe. He also was part of the team that came up with the mustang. The Greyhound Scenicruiser is the one with two front windshields or double decker almost. It is one 1001 made with 500 being taken apart for parts in the mid 70's and one of the few left in good shape with no rust to speak of. The BMW I found on Ebay and it was in just too good of shape for the price, came with an extra engine which I installed complete with triple webbers. I need to sell sone of this stuff. No room in a 40x60 shop. Anyway, thanks for the welcome.

schamp..didn't realize the suicide doors stuck around that long..thought they were 64-66. the bus is exactly the one i thought..i've seen it used in maybe a couple of period-correct movies of that era..neat bus..would love to see pics of yours. i just sold my 35' safari motorhome to a woman who lost her home in katrina..made her a great price..could have made more, but it's hard to argue with a displaced woman. anyway, i can sleep at night.
