DuckTail Questions

I have purchased a ducktail for Scruffy. I have a couple questions:

Do I run the same latch assembly?

Do I run the same hinges?

Should I run the metal P-O-R-S-C-H-E letters?

Should I run no script?

thanks for your opinions.

Same latch, same hinges. I don't like the porsche letters, but the black porsche RS sticker looks good. Funny, Tyson and I were just talking about ducktails, and Scruffy.

hey JC

Yeah, I want to get it done before the run out to Santa Rosa for the rgruppe gathering in May.

So I should use the 964 hinges?

no P O R S C H E letters. same hardware otherwise.

should look good on that car

thanks JMZ

If you plan on swapping tails with any frequency, you'll save yourself a lot of headaches if you get a second set of hinges (these won't need to be modified like the 964 lid ones were) and a second latch. Otherwise, you're going to have to do all the adjustments every time.

I'd vote no on the P-O-R-S-C-H-E letters, but maybe yes on a centered 911T badge, or whatever badge you think works for Scruffy. (I went with the model-year 2000 'millenium' 911 badge on mine because, well, I liked it.)

thanks Jack.

I was thinking of the same badge, I always liked it. After all, it was BB1 that go me started in this hobby. I don't know if I should thank you or send you a copy of my parts bill so you can see why I "cry" sometimes when I think about it..

seriously, thanks. I think the duck is going to look awesome on the car.

A "proper" Carrera stripe kit would look good as well. However, there is nothing wrong with the clean look of a badge-less decklid. "

I will check it out.

right now I am leaning towards just the simple "911"

unless Dave comes up with what we talked about.

stay tuned!

 Any excuse to post a picture. Here's the 'Millenium' badge on a duck:

Jack,
Where did you get your badge? I want to put one on my 911 but can't find one.

mjshira 02-02-2006 04:51 PM

in a word, S-I-C-K!

Jack, there are never too many pics of BB1 or BB2!

Thanks

It's a 996 part. A dealer should have it. I don't have the part number, but I bet Pelican could get the part if you found the number.

Here it is in the UK.

pelican should be able to get it for you. performance products carries it and i was told pelican will quote for any part they carry..just give a call.

I'd call to confirm, but it looks like the Millenium badge is Pelican part number 996-559-237-05-OEM, and that they sell it for $18.50.

(I think I paid double, in addition to the shipping costs from Switzerland. Live and learn.)

zmayne 02-03-2006 10:04 AM

Cool, thanks!

Jack,

I like that badge as well, very retro modern or something..

is it a stick on, or does it bolt through?

Jack Olsen 02-03-2006 11:48 AM

It's adhesive-backed.

In case you are curious to how letters look on a ducktail.
Here is mine. I like it, but then I'm an engineer who wears white socks with black pants.

This is related but kind of OT.

I am wanting a ducktail, but..........there's always a but, it seems that in the rain it would make an excellent gathering place for water.

Can anyone deny or confirm this???
