Make, make, make, make sure that when fitting the alternator back into the fan guide that it's totally on center. Hand spin the fan within the housing to make sure that its on center and does not rub against the housing. I was real anal about this procedure when I did my alternator. Too many scary stories of fan blades hitting the housing once the whole damn thing is back on the car and having to redo it again. Good luck!

To make sure it was on center, I put the nuts back on while on the workbench to draw the alternator into the housing slowly and made sure it bottomed out. I guess I can finish this project tomorrow.

I've read that some folks use nyloc nuts when re-installing the alternator to the housing due to the low torque specs for them. This sounded like a good idea and I had planned to do this myself when re-installing my alternator.

At first I was concerned that the heat may melt the nylon, but if nylocs are ok for the valve covers, I would think they would be fine for this application. Please comment if you feel there may be issues.

Nylocks would be a ***** to get off next time you need to get in there. I like to break them free then spin them off by my fingers. Can't do that with nylocks. They shouldn't melt though...we use them on the valve covers (next to the cat).

Mercy!

I am in the throws of removing the alternator / fan from the housing to check the worries. After installing the newly painted fan/ alternator when the engine was out,,,it went in and the alt light is on.

And now I have to pull the alternator - which has Nylocs..... And 6 nuts......

And after reading this thread I am thinking it could be a ground issue thanks to the new paint ......

You should have a big braided strap for ground apart from the other brown wire.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1462141898.jpg

hard part done! ....or is it?

Looks like I have the updated alternator with internal regulator.

Everything seems in order except for this black wire that is not connected- it is zip tied to a blue wire. I do not have a metal ground strap, but I do have a heavy duty
brown wire attached to the case halves.

i found another thread that was really helpful

my wires were crossed- the blue wire goes to pin 61 and the grounds go to D-1.

I am hopeful this will fix the problem.

incase anyone is curious....
