Dead car

Help-got into my 1982 911SC after shopping. Drive 50 yards and the alternator light goes on-sure enough I'm driving home and the radio dies, the lights get dimmer, car starts sputtering and dies-200 yards from my house!!!!

Where do I begin???

I replaced the starter solenoid last week and the battery a few months back-what gives? Thanks!

Check the positive and the ground cables on the battery. Are they loose? If so, tighten them up and problem solved. I had two occasiones when the cables wiggled themselves off just from vibration over time. If that's not it and the battery/starter have been replaced, I have a feeling it's your alternator.

pull the battery and take it to a shop that can test for voltage and put it under a load. if it's weak, i'd bet it's your alternator - assuming like matt suggested, your cables are tight.

You say you just replaced the solenoid?
Start there, check the cable connection!

All air cooled Porches have in their manuals that if the ALt light goes on you should stop immediatly and check the fanbelt. Geez.

warren,
looks like the thread you've linked to was started by rodney nelson..classic asked a question in the middle of the body of that thread..so it looks like he's just making his own thread now with his concern..
