HELP what and where is this hose?
 

I have recently purchased my 89 Carerra 3.2 and with the purchase came a stalling problem which with your help I am trying to track down but.............today as I was removing the crumbling sound deadener from the engine bay I spotted what looks to be this vacuum hose lying on the right side of the engine bay, I have tracked it back to it's origin (the rear of the top of the plenum) but don't know where this end belongs exactly. Doesn't seem to belong there. Take the airbox filter cover off and get a better look.

It does look like a vacuum hose from the activated carbon container (from the right side wheel arch to the motor compartment - air filter -).

It does look a lot like a vacuum hose, although I have an SC it has the same type of hose as this.

That is one of two lines. And I'm betting it's the first one I've listed...

• Look above the oil filler neck. Look above and behind the rubber oil line leading into the oil tank. You will see a small metal valve. The valve can best be described as a "disk looking contraption". On the backside of the disk portion of it will be a nipple for a small braided vacuum line. By backside, I mean the side you can't see.
• On the back of the air filter box there is a nipple for small braided line.

I also found a disconnected hose in the same general location as yours; as mentioned, you may need to remove some items (air filter box, fan motor/blower and duct) and get a mirror to see things back there to determine its exact routing. There should also be a vacuum hose routing diagram/placard attached to the underside of your engine trunk lid (on the right/passenger side) which will assist you in determining where this hose belongs. There are several points of connection on the backside of the throttle body....just keep looking and tracing down the various hoses....you will eventually figure it out.

Just had my airbox off this weekend and saw that exact same hose just laying back there. Capt. Carrera is right -- mine begins at that location he identified near the oil filler neck. But, I studied the vacuum hose chart and looked with a mirror for 10 minutes and can't find where it might go.

Regarding the vacuum hose nipple on back of airbox -- it's for a different hose that is bigger and is routed around to the back and is basically pointing directly at that nipple (which made it obvious) and fit it perfectly. Check it out -- you'll see that larger hose sitting back there. That small unattached hose probably won't even fit on the airbox nipple.

I studied the vacuum chart and still couldn't find its termination with a mirror. I think it's probably an emissions-related hose, probably to vent gas fumes or something like that.

Either way, it's bugging the hell out of me so let's figure this thing out ! I'll have mine at the Porsche dealer later this week and will try to get the answer from them (and will report back).

I'm pretty sure it goes to the activated carbon container. There was a connecting piece which connected the air hose you see at the pic to anothere hose going to the carbon filter (rear right wheel arch).
