I realized it was aftermarket.
Thing is, they mount and pivot on a shaft similar to OEM. 90% of my "flop" was due to crappy bolts used at the main hinge/pivot point. I am correcting that today. |
paslantnose-those pics help to see what you actually have, I don't have a slant so it helps. The good news is you look like you do have adjustability for aiming the headlights, once you get the slop out of the pivots. I can see the horizontal and vertical adjuster screws but don't know if the springs are there on the other side of the bucket. The bad news is that slop in the pivots is a problem with all the aftermarket headlight systems that I have seen posted. Reducing the slop at the pivots as you are doing is about the only cost effective thing you can do.
The cost to convert to the factory parts is very high and althought the slantnose parts are based on 928/944/924 mechanisms, they are not direct replacements. You would have to fabricate/modify the parts to make them work. I recently saw a slantnose conversion that used a fabricated crossbar to actuate the headlights, so it can be done. It was a mild steel tube with tabs on each end and the motor in the middle, not as elegant as factory but functional. If you or anybody else does replicate the factory system please post any progress. I for one would be interested in seeing it replicated. |
pa911, from the looks of it you have a factory set up. If it's NOT in a factory 930 or carrera then I'd say someone somewhere in the cars past installed them. During the 930 slantnose craze it was not unusual to see stolen parts ending up on the occasional "my friend did this" projects. You mention that the car is from Fla at some point in it's history. I'm usually suspicious of cars comming out of Fla especially in the '80s.
I'd be very interested in any and all pics you could send of the system. Someday I want to make another slant for myself and could use all the pictures and measurements I can get. |
Mine has an aftermarket system with rectangular headlights with the Mazda motors I believe. Mine also has the lights on the buckets. The system is getting sloppy now and have been meaning to look into improving the system. I did find a factory system on ebay, can't remember what it went for but it wasn't cheap. I thought about going with the 924/944 route, but just haven't had time to look into more.

Sorry to re start a old topic but I'm ting to convert my slant nose to a round headlight. ..I have the rx7 square style..and it's crap.
The 924 944 is the same as real slantnose. . What's in your red 911 slantnose to give you the round style... Thanks jasonhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464583763.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464584339.jpg |

I had been planning to search this topic. still in tear down on the 930 clone project.
I have a slant conversion with Mazda rectangular lights and buckets. since not original, was interested in if anyone has done a customer job using small LED headlights? the idea is the assembly only needs to raise a few inches to expose the small LED HL . otherwise I'll research repairing the mazda units. ideas? |
@jagErocks you said "Hey I'm starting to convert mine to round factory style..I bought the while package ..included headlight assembly. Motor.linkage for $160 cdn. I have studied the real 930 slant and this is the way to go...I did a dry fit last night...and man about 95% fits perfect...the bucket are a little in the way..but it's not a over night project...
I was just reading your post. I also have an aftermarket 930 slant nose with square Mazda headlights. I want to convert to round headlights. You said you were able to purchase the kit. Can you please tell me where you got the round headlight kit from and how much? I ive in southern California. |
