87 Carrera...speedometer question
I have had the engine and tranny out of the car. My speedometer works, but odometer does'nt. Is there a speed sensor and a cable on the tranny?
|
most likely the problem is with the speedometer (odometer) since part of it is working ....If i am not mistaken there is a gear inside the speedometer that sometimes fails....there are places that do VDO repairs and could correct the problem

Here in Texas we use Overseas Speedometer in Austin, TX.; I've read good things about North Hollywood Speedometer on the west coast. Don't know of anyone on the east side of the country, but surely there must be someone out there. Yes, there is a plastic gear that is the culprit and they're getting hard to find.
p.s. I've always heard that one should never push the odometer reset button with the car in motion; take care of the reset when you're at the service station filling up and at a stand still. |
A sensor mounts on the drivers side of the tranny.
The wires go over the top and into the cabin, pass side, thru a grommet. The connections are accessible under the panel on the floor behind the seats. They are connected thru a couple of spade terminals to the wiring loom. |
