Odometer just quit at 73K???
Hi guys, My friend has a 79 SC that the odometer just quit at 73K. He had purchased a new unit but never installed it and I told him that I heard of repairing his. What can you guys tell me about fixing his odometer? First, how does his odometer come out of the dash and disconnect? Second, is it a gear that goes out thats easy to do or do you send these out for repair?? What about pricing? Can just about anyone do this repair? Thanks alot, Mark
PS Im sure this is a common prob. |
Mark,
My odometer has been broken for quite some time. You can fix it yourself if you choose, look up the tech article on gear replacement however it may be easier to just send it off to places such as North Hollywood Speedometer. I don't know the costs but I am sure their website has plenty of information. |

Do a search. It's very common for the little plastic gear to disintegrate. I've never done the job, but apparently the repair is not too difficult. |
Read the
Pelican tech article. |
Send to North Hollywood, they did mine for $130 last year and calibrated and repainted the face. I've been told its not what you want to jump into.

You can easily mess up the face or needle if you are not patient. I found it easier to send mine out.
