(cut from page 9 of this thread so some of us don't need to wade through page after page of posts for info):
OFFICIAL MEETING TIME: 8AM - JUNE 17, 2006. LOCATION: STARBUCKS IN REDLANDS ADDRESS: 627 Orange St., Redlands, CA 92374 ![]() Start at Starbucks in Redlands (627 Orange St., Redlands, CA 92374). Proceed up Highway 38 to the Big Bear area. Once in town, we'll make a right on Stanfield Cutoff (crossing the east edge of the lake to the north side). We'll turn left on North Shore Drive and then immediately left again into the MWD East Boat Ramp for a scenic rest and pictures. Past runs have used this parking area and it looks to be the best one available. From there it's on to the Gold Pan restaurant, the traditional eatery of past Big Bear runs (39204 North Shore Dr., Fawnskin, CA 92333). From there, continue Highway 38 (North Shore Drive) to the junction of 18 at the dam. Continue on 18 to the 330 at Running Springs, and then down 330 to Starbucks on Baseline Street ( 27615 Baseline St Highland, CA 92346). For those of us who live in Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills, Foothill Ranch, RSM, SJ Capistrano, Dana Point, San Clemente, etc., Paul Kaas (aka Pkaaso) has offered us the use of his shop parking lot as a central meeting area before we head out to Redlands as a group. The place is called "Barnhoorn Kaas" and is located at: 20622 Pascal Way, Unit B, Lake Forest, CA 92630. Plan to be there early if you want to join a little caravan up to Redlands. We're leaving his lot by 6:15 AM in order to be at the Starbucks in Redlands no later than 7:20 AM or so. Here's who I've got so far, not including people who'll show but aren't telling us. swbsam (maybe) (he says he's hoping to make it) (keep fingers crossed) thrown_hammer (maybe) andys74 ael911 Motion Carrera3.5L nostatic kevin993 Jack Olsen TRE Cup Emission DByers scottb daepp Dan in Pasadena buttjoint bigrubberjeep jkarolyi MOMO3.2 mikez slodave rpmgroup bobboloo Ashley Bowler glewis 80SC Brando Howard Agency trojanman Joe Sharp Heardrage ematulac johncarlos2003 Mike Kunz carmad david_winters Neuromancer Brad01mc Wickd89 Aleng888 Pkaaso DavidI 84porsche 450knotOffice 89Turbocabmike seronde sammyg2 (maybe) cvfncrew (maybe) kg911 (maybe) smestas (maybe) sushinav (maybe) schubee (maybe) thrown hammer (maybe) Cdnone 1 (maybe) Silverestry 911S (maybe) Quicksilver (maybe) PatrickB (maybe) therotman (maybe) KaptKaos (maybe) Valenciacarrera (maybe) pyro57 (maybe) Finally, I want all of us to remember that this is supposed to be a FUN run, not a dangerous or reckless one. Let's all keep it safe out there on Saturday. See you soon guys! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well, after two pages of discussion about setting a date for a run to Big Bear, a date has been agreed to and set. The date is Saturday, June 17th and is open to all here in SoCal. I want to see a huge turnout for this drive. Here's some motivation for the run. This is a link to a past run (more than 2 1/2 years ago!): BBRIII is a hot time! And a link to a few awesome videos made by surflvr911sc of the same run: Big Bear Run III ~ VIDEO!!!!! I should be moved in by then. I will pencil this in as a potential road trip.

We're in! P-car run during the day and then go home and watch the LeMans start on Tivo! Sounds like a perfect day to me. Look forward to a big turnout.
Moderators - I think this qualifies for a "sticky".

I'm a definite maybe. 3 weeks from today my wife is due with our first kid. Hopefully he's not too late.
Where is the start/finish? |

Start/finish is still to be worked out. The general idea is for us to gather someplace convenient near the foot of the mountain in Redlands and move out as group from there.
I'd like to run up highway 38 from Redlands to Big Bear. It's a beautiful, uncrowded 50 miles or so of high and low speed curves and some nice long straights. The highway slowly climbs all the way to 8,200 feet before dropping back down to the 6,500 foot lake elevation. After we eat in the Big Bear area, we can either return the way we came or continue onto highway 18 and then highway 330 back down the "front side" of the mountain. 18/330 is a nice drive but is significantly more crowded than 38 and offers fewer opportunities to pass the inevitable slow-pokes. For those coming from the San Fernando or Santa Clarita Valleys, another route home is to go the back way through Victorville and Pearblossom. The road down the mountain is generally pretty clear of traffic, and there are some great "twisties," too. And, the drive west through the desert is much nicer than going along the (usually very crowded) 10 freeway.
My $.02.

My SOCG record is still at perfection for consecutive "OFFICIAL" events so put down for this one and lets see if I can keep the record going. Thanks for the PM, Scott.

Some photos from the last run to whet your appetite. These were in the thread that chronicled that run. All of these photos are Jack Olsen's:
