101 Projects for your 911 is a good book to have....along with Bentleys...along with several posts from this board.....do a search there are some great pictures....It is not that hard to do....time consuming...but not that difficult....Mine is coming out in a few weeks as soon as the weather warms up for a little detail work

Not very difficult at all. It's pretty much unbolting some things, bolting in a new one, and bolting it back up.

+1 on the 101 Projects book. It's a good resource.

It's not at all hard. What is hard is paying so damn much for it. Try **********.com they have good prices on most Porsche parts.

This may help....most of it would be the same for your car.... although you may have an exterior voltage regulator....

Here at PP your alt is $342.

At ********** it's $299.

See if PP will match it.

To bad you can't get it rebuilt somewhere. Or at least turn it in for a core to get something back.

replacing the alt in a 911 is much easier than it is in almost all other cars.

find a local rebuilder. i paid $125.

and remember to disconnect the battery. long, thin, strong fingers would be helpful, but not entirely necessary. masraum, i gotta disagree. i think it is easier on most other cars, where they sit front and (almost) center.

First time it took an hour, second time it took 20 minutes.
I went with a local rebuilder for $120, luckily he honored the warranty when it took a dump after six months.

i have to admit that the first time i did this job it was a *****..took hours to finally get it put back together without any guidance at all to go by. since then it takes me probably an hour or less not rushing the job.
