#@$% Cab Top

OK, I've finally had it with my cab top. I've had the car 4 years and the top hasn't worked right in those 4 years. Its' either been in the shop or broke, and don't know how much it really cost me. So, I'm keeping the car but converting the top to manual.

I'm wondering what do I have to buy besides the manual mechanism to make the conversion.

BTW, nobody in my state works on cab tops. If I lived in California, where there's shops on every street corner that know cab tops inside & out, Then I'd probably have it fixed, and not replaced. The top mech. is complicated, and just wat to keep it simple.

Gary

I guess since you want to go to a manual top that you currently have a power top. I don't have a power top so I don't have those problems, but I have read that they do have their share of problems. The two motors that control the two sides have to work simultaneous to lift the top properly. You can disable the power mechanism by loosening a bolt on each side. There should be a hole next to the seatbacks where you insert a socket and loosen. It should be illustrated in your owners manual. You will still need to operate the roller latches to release the top from the windshield header. It may save you some $$$ rather than going to the earlier manual top. I am by no means an expert but off the top of my head other than the manual top assembly you would need to weld in the correct brackets(early tops had different brackets) and weld in new windshield header with the hook type latches. You might be able to just swap the latches from the roller type that you have to the earlier j hook/claw style. I do not know if this is possible or if you have to weld in a newer style windshield header.
