More 915 problems.....

Short and sweet.
1-915 seems to have WAY to much back lash at the wheels (roll them 3" in either direction to catch the pinion)
going dwn the road when cold and eng skips a beat there is a real bucking sensation in drive line,- backlash?
3- checked all the usual cv joints all good.
4- drained the oil, some minor particles on mag plug
5 next, what can I learn from takeing the side diff cover off ?? become a can of worms, Or could I see the pinion and see if it is loose in the bearing ??
thanks

Try double clutching? I bought mine 4 years ago and found that after I engage the clutch to down shift, take out of gear, then blip the throttle before engaging and down shifting, there's no backlash.

Hopefully, these are the right sequences. You probably already heal toe and double clutch, though. But, I felt the gears backlash more than anther car I owned when younger.

Gary

Sorry, I didn't read your post close enough. Guess I'm thinking of something else. A different type of backlash.

I have the same problem. I have been putting it off, but the time is near to drop the motor/tranny and stick another tranny I bought in there and do some motor work. Mine whines and I know it's the ring and pinion, so I think you're on the right track thinking about the same.

well....what wil I learn by taking the side cover off?? mainly I think it is a back lash (loose pinion bearing ) problem. not a shift problem . do I open a can of worms by taking off the side cover??
