My rear hood keeps popping open!
 

Don't know where to begin to troubleshoot it but the damn lid keeps popping open on my way to work.

Maybe the latch is worn...or something...I dunno - I'll look at it in detail this weekend though.

Any else see this?

Adjust the latch. More than likely the latch is currently set to tight. I.E., it's barely catching because the mechanism is seated too low to lock the latch. Raise the latch just a bit.

There are three variable in order of importance:

1. Condition of the rubber bumpers ... wear or cracking alters the 'altitude' and fit of the deck lid!

2. Lubrication and cleanliness of the latch [fixed part on chassis] or 'probe' -- pin and spring assembly on deck lid!!! If the 'claw' mechanism of the fixed latch is lacking lubrication and laden with years of collected grit which can severely limit the return force of claw after the 'probe' has been pushed down, and if that return force is diminished enough to slow down the snap back speed of the claw before the probe bounces back far enough that the claw can't grab the back side of the probe ... or, if the claw only grabs the widest point of the probe, then the claw only needs a very slight bump to release the probe and the deck lid is suddenly loose!

3. Adjustment should NEVER be needed after a PROPER reinstall of a decklid ... unless something about #1 or #2 above has changed!

You can adjust the spring latch on the rear hood. Lengthen it just a bit...

careful..... all it might need is a little "pre-load" adjustment on the cable...mine acted the same way and was fixed this way.

Too much adjustment...however...and it won't open !!

Yeah; OKay - after fighting the flu through the family I finally got some time to work on this.

The preload adjustment was off; I tightened it up a bit (not too much of course) and we'll see how it does. I haven't taken it for a drive yet.

All of the above, but what worked for me after endless rounds of adjusting the pin depth and aligning the latches was this:

Look into the middle of the bottom latch, then work the release lever back and forth and observe the jaws. The lever must be in a position so the jaw opening is smallest (to catch the pin). Adjust the lever and cable wire set screw so it sits in this position. Any other lever position enlarges the opening.
