Couple of questions

I am trying to remove my AC and was wondering how to remove the lines from the engine compartment. I am not sure if I can slide them back through.

Also, how do you remove the lines that go into the cabin near the steering rack? What do they connect to inside?

Does anyone know where to get replacement rubber seals that are under the car, right under the front of the gas tank? There are three of them. I found mine are kind of deteriorated and allow water to get in there.

Thanks

Ah, I've had a little experience with that particular model.

Yes, you can just withdraw the lines from the engine room after disconnecting them from the evap or condensor (or whatever it is) that's mounted on the engine lid. Get under the car, reach up, and you can pull them out.

For under the car, I believe they connect to some piece of gear that is in the smuggler's boot. Lift the lid in the front trunk under the carpet and you'll see a large plastic encased thingie in there. That should come out also. Before you can get it out, you'll need to undo 4 screws from under the pass side foot panel, as there is a plastic piece under there holding it on. You need to plug those two holes with something afterwards; they are a big air leak, and you'll have a huge draft in your car if you don't. I used the removed plastic piece as a template and cut a sheet of non-rusting metal to go over hole. Seal the edges of it with caulk of weatherstrip of some kind.

You'll need to do the same thing after removing the blower fan in front of the spare tire. Also remove the underbody crashbar and screen that protects the front condenser.

HTH,

Do you have any idea about those three rubber plugs that are underneath the car and right under the front part of the gas tank? These had some water in there from a drive while it was raining.

Asjac,

I have no idea what rubber plugs you are talking about but here's an option or two. In any decent sized city, there will be a company that distributes fasteners and clips to the body shops in the area. They'll have a variety of body plugs and grommets, in plastic and rubber. Measure the holes you have and go look.

Also, Porsche and BMW (and others) have a bunch of them listed in their parts CD. Find a friendly parts guy (at a dealer, or an independent shop) and have them look up something suitable. I like BMW better, as their parts CD has sizes listed for the misc. hardware and Porsche usually doesn't.

I have been restoring a car lately and have been working on plugging all the holes and mine doesn't have any in front of the gas tank.

Asjac,

Sorry to dodge your question, but I don't recall any rubber plugs under there either...

They are on the under side of the car, where the suspension is. I guess I will have to do something here locally. Thanks guys.

And yes the system had been evacuated.

lol..if yours is like mine and you have non-barrier style hoses, the evacuation is a 'natural process'..
