Radio Antennae Connection

Question about replacing the antennae.

I have a 79 Targa, which the radio antennae was damaged by the previous owner, part was delayed before I bought it, so I have the antennae to install. The question is the previous antennae wire looks to be original, therefore is just a wire with a connection to which I presume was to the previous base. The new equipment has the typical 1/8 or so type stereo connection. Is there an good way to connect the two wires so I would not have to go through and run the new wire all the way back to the radio? I guess I am thinking in the realm of cut and tape, etc.?

Thanks.
