High torque starters
Having had the Carrera sit for a few days because of cold snowy weather, got in this morning to start it up, turned the key and all I heard was a hum.
No triggering of the starter. Hmm...Battery replaced about 2 months ago, ground strap cleaned and tightened, cables snugged at the same time. Remembering that this past summer, after spirited driving in 90 degree weather, every now and then I would get a screech from the starter when I tried to start it. Uh oh..Solenoid not totally engaging....it would happen about once every 3 weeks. Anyway, I jacked the car up and tapped on the starter and solenoid...turned the key and it fired up.... The starter (Bosch OEM) was last replaced in 1993 and I guess it was about time for a failure. Anyone using the high torque starters and if so, how do you like them and which one do you use? Thanks

I'm not a fan of the Tilton's.
The best one, IMO, is the version Pelican sells. It's a Nippon-Denso. Basically the same thing that comes on Hondas and Toyotas. Very reliable, and almost half the weight of the Bosch unit.

I've been happy with my Tilton. My 3.2 with 11:1 compression ate two OEM starters in like 2 months, shortly after I assembled the engine. Had the Tilton since last summer and it has been rock solid. Lou
