1973.5 T - A 2.4L to 3.0L Conversion
Hello All-
I'm in the process of refreshing an '81 3.0L engine destined for a '73.5 911. There's a wealth of information on the board about the topic separated into individual subjects (oil line rerouting, some wiring discussions, fuel delivery options, etc.). Does anyone know of a comprehensive overview topic or site that documents this conversion? Knowing what I'm up against...upfront...would be helpful. Any help would be appreciated, --Kevin |
Kevin,
I'm doing the very same conversion now. The donor engine isn't ready itself for the install, but I have done all the research for the transplant, and implemented some of it already. I have a bunch of notes on what I am doing, like wiring changes, fuel pump relocation (not actually required, but a desired thing to do), oil lines, etc. My engine doesn't have the Lambda system (as yours will if it's a US version), but I can help there as I know the Lambda stuff pretty well. Of course, maybe someone else has this stuff already written out and can post it, or can post some links. It would take me a little time to get things documented so it will be useful to others. Actually, my engine is a '79 3.1 liter Factory Upgrade engine, but the wiring is the same as a stock '79 3.0. Just different Pistons/Cylinders, and the CIS components have some different numbers. |
Thanks, Jim. It's nice to hear from another who's searching for answers to the same conundrum. A majority of the information is available in these forums, it's just scattered throughout.
Anything you have at the moment, and have time to post, is MORE than welcomed in any form! Not only am I interested for my own sake, but also planning to document at least a generic process for others. That's the thought to this point anyway... Thanks again for the response; I appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge. --Kevin P.S. - A progress photo you're sure to be familiar with... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1139789079.jpg |
IF you guys communicate via this thread, it will help others in the future...

I completed the transplant of a 3.0 SC into my '73.5 911T last year. The key was using the wiring harness, alternator, crank pulley, fan and shroud from the '73.5 T motor. That way the car thinks it is being driven by the original engine.
Check some of my posts "Another RSR Clone Project Update - " or email me with questions you may have. This board helped me in a huge way with my project and I love giving something back in return. |
Proper Exhaust Studs for HE Backdating?
Are these the proper exhaust stud replacements for a 1981 SC 3.0L engine when installing a 1973.5T version of the SSI HEs? Crankcase Stud, M8 X 20mm, 5 Per Car 911 (1969-73) 999-062-006-02-M260 A quick fitment led to the same conclusion everyone else has come to...shorten the studs or add washers. I'd prefer to shorten the attachments if possible. Thanks for the help in advance, --Kevin |
Here's an excellent thread:
