Specs: Marchal Alternator Nut (1974-1981)

Does anyone have the specs for this nut? Pelican list this item as "no longer available".

Nut size / type and thread type?? ( M ?? )

This is for 2.7 engine alt with built in regulator (newer style)

Thanks,

Stephen,

You should compare your replacement alternator to the pics in the following bulletin before attempting to source a nut ...

The edges are starting to round off. The socket I have is a 15/16's that fits good but the open end I was using when taking it off (changing fan belt) rounded the corners a little bit. I am getting the tool to hold the fan & will match the new nut with the correct socket.

Warren you are correct, I do have the updated alt setup. The nut size is ~ 15/16 so it is much larger than any Metric tools I have. So it looks like I need a M17 X1.5 nut.

Stephen,

Make that new socket a 6-point 24 mm and you won't have any future problems with the new nut getting rounded off!

That nut is A very specialized nut. I just went down this road. My nut measured out as a M16 pitch of 1.0 but it isn't . I have a Marshall alternator and mine was slightly stripped. I went to a Europen alternatr shop and he confirmed my findings. Mine is an older external regulator on a 78SC but I tell you that nut is special.
If anyone finds a source for this nut I would appreciate some feedback because my nut is hanging on by a few threads.... ouch !!!

Are you looking for the M17 X 1.5? Or the M16 X 1.0?

I emailed Pelican and will see if they have the M17, mine was converted over to the internal regulator style. Also try www.fastenal.com and see if they have what you are looking for.

As Warren pointed out, I needed a 24MM 6PT socket, while I was thinking about it I picked up one off Ebay $7 shipped.

I talked to Pelican and they carry the kit that has the nut M17 in it. $20 for the nut & shims. 928-603-904-00

Hi Stephen

I am actually looking for the M16 1.0 but not really. That is how it measures but it just will not fit. Pelican no longer carries it .
