NEEDED alternator experts
can i use a earlier Marchal 70a alternator in my 83 sc?
There are 3 contact on top that the wires connect to. there 5 total there is a connector on the bottom to the black piece on the alternator. and the ground douse anyone have a picture and doues anyone know if this older alternator will be ok in my 83sc Last edited by favrok01; 02-18-2006 at 01:36 PM.. |

Can you? Yes you can. You may have to get a different fan shroud because the alternators are different depths over the years. Also, you will have to obtain an external voltage regulator and wire that up.
Should you do any of that? No. You should buy a modern Bosch replacement alternator from Pelican, with an internal voltage regulator, install it and forget about it. Search here under "early_s_man" and "alternator." Warren has posted the factory technical brochure that describes the changeover to an internally regulated alternator in 1982.
