Piston ring end gap? J&E's

J&E gives a table for a guideline only, I need more than a guideline! They use Bore which is 3.858 (98mm)X.0045 which is around 19 thou, end gap, second ring is a little more and the oil ring is min of .015 What are these really to be at? 98 J&E 10.5 to 1 in new nickasil cylinders.

Thanks

Just checked the stock rings (all cylinders) and they all come out right at .018 first and second which are the same ring, the oil ring is at .016

Craig,

Use stock end gaps for the 3 rings. c1=0.2-0.4, c2=0.2-0.4 and oil=0.3-0.6 millimeters.

The problem is finding rings that get to stock tolerance. I have brand new Goetz rings and they are .022 inches. My old rings with many miles (don't know exactly) measure at .026 inches. Kind of silly to put new rings in if this is as good as I can get.

The factory limits are 0.8 (0.0315"), 1.0 (0.0394") and 2.0 (0.0787") millimeters. I know you know that Andy (and Craig too I suspect), but the tolerance limit permits quite a large gap.
