Question General questions about headers and exhausts for the 911...

I'm looking at making some changes to the exhaust on my NA 3.2 Carrera; I currently have a cat-bypass pipe and a single in dual out Dansk sport exhaust installed which are matched to a Steve Wong chip. I'm debating about doing away with the heat, as the car is mainly a track-DE toy and occasional street driver. So let's assume for the sake of discussion that I want a simple set of headers, and then I plan to mount a simpler/smaller/lighter muffler (not a banana can.) Some day my engine will become a 3.4 l.

This question is VERY vague, but what can you tell me about headers on a 911, tubing sizes used, etc. I've seen pics of the Bursch headers, the Dansk headers, the Billy Boat, and all look slightly different in tube lengths before they hit the merge collectors.

My goals are lighter weight, more simplicity, free flow, no Porsche tax type expense. Also, why are the banana mufflers so huge?

Any and all comments are appreciated, or links pointing me to relevant info.
