Door Wind Noise

I get an anoying wind noise from both the doors over 50 mph. It appears to be comming from the front of the door. The weather striping looks ok. Is this noise normal or is there a fix?

I get this too and it's more like a howl.

First thing to check is the door and window frame is flush with the body all the way around. Some chaulk (or glycerin since the seals might need treatment anyways?) may reveal wether the seal is making full contact all the way around. Another way to find the leak is to smother the sound with a towel while driving.
The window frame can adjusted independantly from the door.

Other sources of wind noise are from the hood seal and in the door pivot around the through-wire plug grommets and antenna.

NO! it can be fixed. I had terrible door seals with chunks missing. Lots of noise. I then replaced them and had great improvement but not perfect. Now I am slowly pulling the weatherstripping back out in areas where I can feel air and glueing a thin piece of tubing in the track behind those areas to build it up. I'm getting very close to having a good seal. My next step will be to cover all the "extra" holes between the cabin and the front trunk area.
Also it seems the old door seals deform with age. For $20 you may just try replacing one to start with and see if that helps.

It is not my highest priority at the moment but I have been dealing with this issue too. I have to mention a gasket repair I did with success, so far...
Leland told me the Targa top front gasket that seals at the windshield frame is no longer available for the SC. It was ripped right in the center and was screaming loud at 60. At 80 you couldn't hear the radio.
I cleaned it with alchohol, put a wide piece of masking tap under the rip and filled it with black caulk from the top. I worked the caulk into the crack with my fingers, smoothed it out and left it over night with a lamp shining on it to keep it pretty warm. The (blue) masking tape came right off without messing up the repair and the wind noise from the top is completely gone. you can hardly see the repair.
Now I can actually hear the door wind
And I'll fix it someday I swear I will!

Yes, that is what makes having a 30 year old P-car fun! It cost a lot less, the insurance is cheaper, and it does not depreciate if well maintained...and is already cooler than your friends' new $30,000 cars! And it certainly handles better, goes faster and probably gets better gas mileage. Now just need to tweak a the few of the minor annoyances a bit to make it perfect!

Get some painter's tape (ie, the easy to remove kind) and try taping over where you suspect the noise is coming from. You should be able to narrow it down to a small section. I found the exact spot where my weather stripping was weak and built up the area with a little caulk under the lip. It's much better now.

The window frame can adjusted independantly from the door.

How do you adjust the window frame?
Can you tighten it up to decrease the gap?

Didn't Porsche fit a rubber grommet to one of the front drain holes on later cars to cut down on wind noise? Or am I talking bishop?

Noise from bottom corner of driver's window

I'm been fighting with this on several cars...

Door Gaskets, bolt access plugs, door drain holes, foam sealer behind mirror adjuster on some... nuthin'!!

Cool

my car has an extra window seal that older models may not have. it was added by the factory because of wind.

I just replaced the drivers door seal because it was damaged and now when cruising along I can HEAR the passenger door noise. Damn it is loud too. Wouldn't have thought that the seal would have made that much of a difference. I just ordered the other side.

if you look there are a whole bunch of adjusments that can be made to the window assy. so that it can be tillted all sorts of directions....most do not fit at the top to roof line very well at all!!
The good news is there is a strip of felt or somthing like that made for the newer cars and I am sure P.P.Parts sells it......Did this to mine and now there is peace.

Jay07: the early car window frame assembly is removed with allen bolts at the back and front of the door, and one on the brace bracket inside the door which requires taking off the door pockets, pull handles, and panel.

With the window up, the window frame slides up and out with some dificulty(have someone hold the window or it'll get scratched ;rolleyes.

My passenger side was too high and scraping the top of the doorjam. I took the frame out, ground aluminum off the underside so it would sit lower, reinstalled with body-putty-stuff underneath, and angled it inwards as much as possible to barely clear the top. That side seals well and follows the conture of the body. The drivers side I replaced with a 912/pre69 frame with the nice opening vent window but still needs work.

John70t: Thanks for that, I shall give it a go and hopefully have some wind free motoring.

First, I would seal the front-most of the holes in the bottom of the door frame on each side. There is a rubber (not plastic) plug for this. Then there are plastic 'shims' that fit into the fron corner where the window frame and door skin meet and the same level at the rear. If I had it to do again, I'd just use dum-dum in both those places - the plastic shims don't seem to add much.

Some details here:
