Dalmation Blue Car Needed Help!
I'am hoping that you or, someone you know has a Dalmation Blue/Oxford Blue/SeeBlau car I can see in person. I have sprayed a sample of this color using the OEM 329 color code that according to some websites, is the Dalmation Blue/Oxford Blue/ SeeBlau paint code. However, I'am getting a real deep violet color that is not matching any of the pictures of Dalmation Blue/Oxford Blue or SeeBlau colors posted on this board.
If you live near the Martinez, CA area (Bay Area) please let me know if I can see your car. This would be of great help. Thanks

Im preatty sure the pictures I have seen in that color have a hint of purple in them, it could be your monitor settings.

Sea Blue
I sprayed mine this past summer and 329 is the correct code. If they only made a spray bomb, maybe they added a few too many drops of purple? The guy mixing mine noted it was a pretty simple recipe, but that any variations in the amounts would throw it way off. Maybe have a different paint supplier mix you up a new can?
As a side note, it does have a hint of purple, but only a hint! This is my Sea / Oxford / Dalmation Blue: ![]()

Thanks Ryan - It was a really tough choice between tangerine and this blue. I ended up going blue because there are already a few great orange cars around here. After it got painted, I saw a similar blue one a few days later! I still want a tangerine car at some point, but I love this colour.

no rockers..it looks great, andrew. i might like having gray centers to match, but i understand that the center-less method is an appropriate look in itself. cool car. you should live in arkansas..i NEVER see another vintage 911. people here don't even know what it is..

But if I moved to Arkansas, people wouldn't understand my crazy Canadian accent
![]() Freddie - Sorry, it took me a few minutes to realise that you're the same guy that PM'd me on the Early S Board yesterday - I'm going to blame it on my brutal head cold! I checked my paint can and it does show '329' as the paint code - It also shows 'Dalmation Blue' as the colour description. If you would like I could get a sample on a popsicle stick, let it dry and mail it to you as reference. Regards, Andrew M

fhernand,
This may seem really silly, but under what light are you looking at the color? If you are in a paint booth, the chances are you are using florecent light, which might really skew your perception of the color. If you haven't already done so, take some samples outside in the daylight. Unfortunatley, posted pictures of the color are of little use because both film and digital percieve colors very differently than they truely exist in nature. On top of that is the bias of your monitor. So that kind of comparison can be misleading and frustrating. The only way to see if the color is true is to compare it directly to another car painted the same color in daylight, and then still you will have to account for aging of the paint on your comparison car. Throw out the color matching and ask yourself if you like the color you have mixed up. Is it the color you want? If it is then follow up on how close it is to the spec. If not then, toss the paint and start from scratch.

Andrew thanks for the imput. That is a very nice car and the color is unique and striking! Very few Porsche's came this color. At this point, another supplier is a good suggestion.

Thanks for all the help with this. I have finally gotten the color...three days later. It took me speaking with PPG and Dupont products back in the east coast to get the formula correct. The problem with these older Porsche colors is that through the years, the tones have been lost in the "translation" if you will. PPG's Dalmatian Blue is different than Dupont's Dalmatian Blue. PPG's Dalmatian Blue has way too much increments of Violets. Dupont's true Dalmatian Blue only comes in a single-stage called Nason which is the bottom of the line paint. So, to get the high-end paint, in a base-coat formula I had to first spray a sample of Dupont's low end Nason single stage and use Dupont's Chroma-vision machine (computer aided lense that reads colors and then translates it to a formula) to get the Dalmatian Blue in base coat so that I can spray my own clear (this two stage base-coat system is great for matching and blending in the event needed). So, if you know if anyone wanting to paint their car Dalmatian Blue/Oxford Blue/SeeBlau, I have the formula with the correct tones. I sprayed out the backside of my engine lid, hood, and doors today. The color is facinating! Thanks

Here a few shots not the best but you get an idea. The flash on my camera might have made the panel much brighter.
