info on this 911r
hi all, i have the randy leffingwell 911 book and there are pictures of this 911r found in a suburb in paris. i'm wondering if anyone has more info and pictures of it. i think it is becoming my insperation for my 68 912. the captions for the photos say it is the car used for the 96 hour endurance records and has been restored since these photos were taken. what i find interesting are the flares, they look like st type in the rear but the front fenders are clearly the 911r fiberglass with a unique flare. any info would be appreciated!

If it's the same car that contested the 96 hours non-stop record (amongst many other records) it is the first of the 20 'production' 911R's - #118.990.01R.
It was restored back to its original 1968 spec by Jim Newton of Automobile Associates in the late 90's (finished in '98) & made its debut at Porsche's 50th Anniversary celebrations at Monterey the same year. This is how it looked after restoration: ![]()

thanks Andy, i am always interested in the modifications race 911's got to make them competitive through the years in different race classes. the flares indicate to me that it was used in rally racing at the time of the the st. it must be tough to decide to what era some historic 911s should be restored to.
