Leakdown and Compression results
Just completed the PPI and - Compression + Leakdown tests
Results : 1. 80% 2. 90% 3. 88% 4. 80% 5. 80% 6. 79% Compression Test reading 1-5 = 12 Bar 6 = 12.5 Bar Ave 168 PSI The Specialist says the Leakdown readings are FINE ??? he says he's had the tester 15 years, and it's not terribly accurate and that if it was less than 40% he'd be worried...hmmm I have decided to take it to the Porsche dealership for a second test - opinion. Any thoughts |
I am not sure of the information by your mechanic. The readings you give must be the % of air not leaking...I too have a leakdown set for 15 years and the readings should be less than 10%. I always looked at it as specifying 'what percentage of air is leaking ' by the rings and valves . So for a 911 you will typically see less than 5% leaking. When there is excessive leaking you can then determine whether the air exit is heard in the crankcase (this would be worn rings), exhaust (exhaust valves) or intake (intake valves).
Your compression readings look good though so I doubt the leakdown is going to be a problem. You could always have both tests performed by another mechanic just to 'be sure'. Good luck - |
