Oil Analysis follow up

This is a follow-up to my last oil analysis, posted here: Oil Analysis Results

I used a TON, and I mean a TON, of fuel system cleaners (many brands) in the tank and seafoam in the intake during this entire oil change interval. I’m talking each tank, sometimes double and sometimes triple doses. Sometimes it was two bottles in 1/8 tank of gas. I have a massive carbon build-up problem in the cylinders. I can see it through the plug holes. Cleaning this up has made a huge difference in the drivability of the car. It was well worth the cost, believe me. I mentioned this to Blackstone when I sent in the oil, and they commented that they didn’t "see any sign of the cleaners.” That makes me happy. It was one reason for the analysis in the first place. This, and my previous report, both shatter the myth that you should change your oil after you use these cleaners.

I’d be interested in theories about where the iron is from, even though Blackstone says they are not worried about it. What iron parts in an air cooled 911 engine could be the source?

Hmmm..... iron .....

rocker arms / shafts .... cam surfaces / lobes... piston rings... valve material ( tulip/stem)....

Although you would think "steel" first, except for the rocker arms @ cast iron....

????

Yes, because of the heavy cleaner usage. Like I said, there doesn't appear to be a need to change your oil after fuel system cleaners.

Yep, lots of iron parts, but the big question is which one is the source? I know, we can only speculate...

that's a great report in my humble opinion....Iron could be from the Seafoam...that engine will last a loooong time....keep up the tests and get a baseline....i will post some of mine this summer when the race season heats up...currently running Schaeffers 5w40....
