Engine pad
I bought a Pad from our host to replace what was left of mine. The question I have is what is that little hole in the upper right for? I have a '79sc with the a/c removed. I pulled out what was left of mine after covering the engine and this section on both sides was already gone so I have no clue as to what goes thru there.

David, how does this replacement compare with the original...mine also needs to be restored. I saw another version for about $140.

I just installed mine last week. That picture is backwards. The hole actually goes on the left side. So just mirror that image or mentally flip the pad vertically. I think it's for the rear defroster.

Yep had to flip it. Looks great now and sounds fine to. Much better looking that the old one.

It looks like you did a partial engine drop. What is exactly involved in this proceedure? Is is just a matter of disconnecting the motor mounts and lowering the engine with a floor jack? Also, what type (if any) glue did you use with this new pad?

i think this job is done by most without a partial engine drop, but loosening the two engine side mounts to lower a little with a floor jack would probably make for less cursing..

bigchillcar is right. I did a partial drop to remove the old one and put in the new one. As of yet I am not sure if I need to use glue. The new one fit so well it should not move at all. The one thing I would suggest is after the drop put a blanket in over the engine before pulling on the old pad. After I got the old pad out and the surface clean I was able to roll the blanket out from front of car to back and all the little bits of foam ended up on the ground rather than in the engine.

Those w/ CIS should make sure the hole that accesses the mixture adjustment is plugged while doing this.
