Histroic Advanced Technology Tidbit

Porsche has always been at the forefront of advanced technologies, often with partners... Thyssen, Mahle, Fuchs, etc.

I was just reading the 356 part of a book on Porsche and it noted that they came out with an advanced cam design that used computer modellling -- in 1957 (!).

I assume it was the lobe design. That early it almost certainly could not have been a finite element model, but they obviously had to have used a numerical methods analysis of some sort.
